Huawei Connected Elevator Solution Helps Improve Elevators’ Efficiency

In 2015 there were more than 15 million elevators operating worldwide. Elevator security is a high priority, but elevator accidents still occur frequently. According to World Health Organization (WHO), by 2050, over 70% of the human population will be living in cities. Skyscrapers are the hallmark of big cities, and elevators are a crucial part of their functionality.

Traditionally, elevators are operated and maintained manually, which means maintenance costs and service interruption. Generally, each elevator needs to be inspected twice a month, and suspended for two days for inspection per year. In this case, 15 million elevators worldwide require 360 million manual inspections per year and cause 30 million days of service interruption. This is a huge challenge for elevator O&M, but elevator safety is crucial.

Development Challenges

Slow Response : When a lift gets stuck, calling for help means ringing an alarm manually, using a 2G signal, or using an outdated phone number to call a repair man. It is hard to predict and prevent system failure in today’s market.

High Labor costs : Manual elevator inspections happen twice a month, which makes for high labor costs and low O&M efficiency.

Closed Architecture: It is difficult to carry out the flexible expansion of the elevator operation.

Huawei and it’s partners created the Elevators Connection Solution, which will backhaul elevators’ data after collecting it in real time. The data center analyzes the data based on Big Data and makes decisions with external systems. The solution enables remote management and preventive maintenance of elevators, reduces maintenance costs, lowers the elevator fault rate, and guarantees passenger safety.

Huawei Elevators Connection Solution Based on SDN and Edge Computing

Huawei Connected Elevator Solution enable the elevator running status monitoring, predictive maintenance diagnostics, remote monitoring network status within the parameters of each elevator. And analyze data at the same time, identify the possible failure of components early, to reduce the failure rate. Huawei’s elevator gateway provides many service interfaces to connect to the elevator controller, voice phones, cameras. The elevator gateway provides an open container and an embedded TPM chip, ensuring secure operation and allowing to develop software free.

Solution Highlights

1. Unified connections and management of millions of elevators achieve automatic O&M services

The SDN-based open architecture supports virtualization-based distributed deployment, seamless scalability, unified management of millions of gateways, and unified deployment and application control. This architecture can rapidly interconnect with third-party application systems or IoT platforms through standard northbound interfaces.

2. Four levels of security assurance eliminate security attacks and safeguard elevator connection services

OS level: The system itself contains security components to ensure terminal security.

Chip level: Specialized trusted platform module (TPM) security chips ensure secure device startup and data transmission.

Channel level: Secure VPN channels are built to ensure secure data transmission.

Platform level: The solution provides device access authentication and rights- and domain-based management.

3. Edge computing supports local pre-analysis, and collaboration between devices and the cloud implements highly reliable and preventive maintenance

• The gateway can have elevator industry or third-party applications deployed flexibly to provide real-time fault warning, analysis, and processing.

• The solution provides in-depth learning from cloud-based Big Data, AI fault identification and health assessment, as well as preventive maintenance.

Customer Value

Reduce O&M costs by 50%. This solution provides automatic elevator operation management, which reduces the manual inspection count and improves management efficiency.

Shorten the service interruption time by 90%. The solution troubleshoots faults in a timely manner by proactive fault report and online pre-analysis of faults.

Improve security and lowers the fault rate using preventive maintenance. The smart elevator platform and network services build and deploy applications, assess the elevator health in advance, implement prompt elevator maintenance, eliminate security risks, prolong elevator lifespan, and guarantee passenger safety.

Provide an open architecture, which improves integration efficiency by 60%, helps elevator manufactures to provide value-added services including advertisements and videos, and offers them new business innovations.

Download the white papers on how New ICT technologies make manufacturing smarter.

As we move on from the Industrial Revolution and the Internet Revolution, the world is on the threshold of a new era of innovation and change with the rise of the Industrial Internet. This era, typified by agile manufacturing, draws together the fields of machine learning and big data to ingest data from machines, analyze it (often in real-time), and then use it to adjust operations. But conventional manufacturing is moving towards networked manufacturing gradually. Networks are becoming the key to creating new value and productivity, which will lead to an innovative mode called connected agile manufacturing. In this new mode, with the application of new ICT technologies, important changes are happening in every segment of manufacturing including R&D, production, supply chains and more. Please explore the agile manufacturing solutions offered by Huawei in the following brochure and white paper.
